After church break-in, Rector wants to help the offender

Canon Ant Pettit says the church would rather serve those in need in a more productive way.

Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Paget was broken into last night.

Police were called, but the perpetrator or perpetrators got away empty handed as there was nothing to steal, according to the rector Canon Ant Pettit.

He said, “They’ve gone through the church and done quite a lot of damage, but we don’t have anything to steal that they would be able to sell or use.”

“So it’s just a bit of a waste of their time and damage for us, really”

Canon Ant said that the church would much rather serve those in need in a more productive way.

He said to those who did this, “we’d love to serve you in the right way. We’d love you to be able to admit what you’ve done, and we will find a way to work through it together.”

“We’d love to meet with them and find a way to forgive each other, and to meet each other’s needs.”

“Breaking in it isn’t the right way, and we think there’s a better way.”
