Bermudian golfer Camiko Smith has narrowly failed in his bid to qualify for the 125th U.S. Open Championship. Competing in a Local Qualifier in Connecticut, Smith finished in a tie for 42nd place in a large field of 123 golfers.
Smith carded a round of 8-over par 80, a score that included twelve pars but was ultimately hampered by five bogeys and a single triple bogey.
With only seven qualifying spots up for grabs, Smith unfortunately fell just six strokes short of securing his place in the prestigious major championship. While the disappointment will be significant, his participation at this stage highlights his ongoing ambition to compete at the highest level of professional golf. The narrow margin will likely fuel his determination for future qualifying events.
