Kendal Trott interviews the director of the Sundance Film Festival
Eugene Hernandez is one of the most influential figures in independent film today. Appointed director of the Sundance Film Festival in 2022, he oversees the festival’s artistic direction and programming; the 2024 edition marked the first Sundance fully presented under his leadership.
A co-founder of IndieWire and former Director of the New York Film Festival, Mr. Hernandez has spent decades at the center of independent cinema.
Here, he speaks with Kendal Trott about how creatives from Bermuda can realistically find pathways into Sundance, and what filmmakers working outside major industry centres should understand about accessing the festival.
