The Bermuda Gymnastics Association (BGA) has signaled a bold new chapter for the sport on the island with the appointment of elite director Jason Parker as Head Coach.
Parker, who arrives from Tennessee with over 30 years of top-flight experience, is joined by his daughter, Assistant Coach Peyton Parker. Working alongside Senior Coach Becky Wentling, the revamped technical team now boasts the capacity to train athletes from grassroots beginners all the way to Level 10—the pinnacle of the USA Gymnastics Development Programme.
Jason Parker’s resume includes a proven track record of qualifying athletes for NCAA Division 1 scholarships. His vision for Bermuda focuses on two fronts:
- Elite Performance: Transitioning local talent to a competitive international “optional-level” standard.
- Grassroots Growth: Building a sustainable, long-term pathway for all participation levels.
While Jason spearheads high performance, Peyton Parker will lead the charge in strengthening recreational and early-development programmes. As former competitive gymnasts, the pair aim to instill “strength, flexibility, and the ability to overcome fear” in Bermuda’s youth.
“Together, we’re focused on growing depth and opportunity so Bermuda’s gymnasts can compete with confidence locally, regionally, and internationally,” said Parker.
Laura Fosker, of the BGA Board of Directors, hailed the move as “invaluable” for an association currently experiencing a surge in registration at both recreational and competitive levels.
