Dill delivers clinical first-round stoppage on welterweight debut

Bermudian mixed martial artist AJ Dill has made a definitive statement in his welterweight debut, securing a ruthless first-round stoppage against Allan Kirby at the Wolkernite Fight Championships in the United Kingdom. Stepping into the octagon at 77kg for the first time, Dill showcased significant tactical evolution to dismantle an opponent with a solid professional pedigree.

The move to the welterweight division presented fresh challenges for Dill, who typically competes at a higher weight class. “My main concerns were matching the speed of the guys at that weight,” Dill admitted, having identified Kirby as a mobile fighter who relied on agility to dictate the pace. Dill’s game plan centered on neutralizing that movement: “I figured if I took his movement away and made him trade punches… then I would have the advantage”.

The strategy “worked a treat” as Dill focused on Kirby’s legs from the opening exchange. With the movement stifled, the end arrived just ninety seconds into the first round when Dill landed a clinical left hook followed by a heavy right to the top of the head. Although Kirby attempted to rise, the referee intervened as his legs had clearly failed him.

The victory maintains Dill’s perfect finishing rate, with all four of his wins coming via knockout or TKO within the first two rounds. Now comfortable at the new weight, Dill has set his sights on a title fight and a move into the semi-pro ranks.
