Bermuda squad ready for elite test at Optimist South American Championship
A six-strong squad of Bermuda’s most promising young sailors has departed for Uruguay to represent the island at the 2026 Optimist South American Championship.
The team—comprising Aaron Riker, Jesse Savage, Elaine Jones, Heath Meyers, Alfie Jansma, and Rex Henagulp—will test their mettle against an elite fleet featuring the finest emerging sailing talent from across South America and beyond.
The prestigious continental regatta presents an invaluable opportunity for the young Bermudians to gain top-tier international fleet-racing exposure, testing their tactical awareness across demanding coastal conditions.
With preparations finalized and boats tuned, the squad takes to the water this week aiming to sharpen their racecraft, bank essential championship experience, and fly the flag proudly on the international stage.
