Bermuda Broadcasting summer intern Camryn Tyrrell interviewed firefighters, asking them about the challenges of the job, and the broader responsibilities they carry as young men in uniform
Notes by Camryn Tyrell, Bermuda Broadcasting intern:
“I highlighted three firefighters, asking questions about their jobs, training processes, and their personal thoughts. I wanted to create a video that highlighted young black men who can be seen as role models for other young men.
“There are negative stereotypes in Bermuda, and I wanted to share something positive about black men. I wanted to show that there are amazing young people in Bermuda doing amazing things.”
Last night’s Wet Fete ’25 – Enter the Jungle brought over 1,000 partygoers to Snorkel Park Beach for a vibrant celebration with a splash of fun. We captured the sights, energy, and excitement of a true Cup Match Thursday highlight in Bermuda.
Somerset have retained the Cup Match trophy after the 2025 Annual Classic ended in a rain-affected draw.
With 3 hours of play lost due to heavy showers early in the day, the result would come as no real surprise. Shortly after 1pm St George’s returned to the wicket on 176 for five in pursuit of Somerset’s 291.
Starting the day unbeaten on 76, Delray Rawlins looked poised to reach his maiden Cup Match century but was heartbreakingly bowled for 98 off a ball from Malachi Jones.
The challengers would go on to declare 48 runs adrift, at 243 for 9, following dismissals of Luke Horan (20), and captain Sinclair Smith.
With the champions at bat for the second time, St George’s struck early as Kamau Leverock fell for 12, followed by Tre Manders (13) and Dominic Sabir (2), reducing Somerset to 47 for three. However, captain Terryn Fray would steady the innings with a composed 57—his second half-century of the match— effectively extinguishing the challengers’ hopes of a change in fortunes, before falling lbw to Rawlins.
The draw was sealed when the match was declared at 7.25pm with Somerset leading 209 for the loss of 7 in the second innings and 500 runs overall to St George’s 243.
Day two of Cup Match at St. George’s Cricket Club offered a vibrant mix of sport, culture, and community. From the cricket and music to fashion and food, the atmosphere was lively throughout. We spent the day capturing the sights and sounds while speaking with spectators about what they enjoy most about Cup Match.

Government press release: The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce grant funding awarded to the following organisations and initiatives in the 2024/25 fiscal year. Increasing funding for mental health services was a commitment outlined in the 2025 Throne Speech. This commitment reflects the Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to promote mental wellness, enhancing infrastructure, reducing stigma and barriers to care, as well as improving access to support.
– AGE CONCERN provides critical support and advocacy for Bermuda residents aged 50+. Allocated funds are being used in a collaborative effort aimed at empowering older adults, caregivers, and professionals with the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to enhance the mental health and quality of life of Bermuda’s Seniors.
– FAMILY CENTRE – The Family Centre (“the Centre”) is dedicated to improving the lives of Bermuda’s families and provide innovative mental health counselling services for children, teens, families, community outreach programmes, and advocacy initiatives. The Ministry was pleased to provide a grant to support the Centre’s Intensive Counselling Services programme, which is free of charge and designed to provide early detection and intervention of mental health challenges in children ages 4 to 18 years.
– WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTRE – The Women’s Resource Centre provides prevention, crisis, and advocacy services to the women in Bermuda. Grant funding was provided to support their comprehensive Therapeutic Services Programme, which encompasses individualised counselling, community and support groups, and relevant mindfulness and wellness activities.
– MEN’S ACCESS TO SUPPORT AND COUNSELLING (MASC) – MASC provides therapeutic engagement and support to men across all aspects of their lifespan through individual and group counselling, support groups, and vocational assessments, while also collaborating with schools and other mental health stakeholders. Financial constraint has been identified as a barrier to too many men in their ability to access mental health support. Grant funding provided to MASC will ensure men of all ages will be able to access mental health support, regardless of socio-economic standing.
– BERMUDA COLLEGE FOUNDATION/YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH PLAN – The grant provided to the Bermuda College Foundation is supporting the establishment of the Youth Mental Health Plan Team (“YMHP Team”) and the implementation of this critical plan. The YMHP Team is working collaboratively with community stakeholders to enact the Youth Mental Health Plan that addresses four components for Bermuda’s youth: mental health prevention and early intervention, stigma and mental health literacy, access to services for youth and their families.
“Addressing Bermuda’s mental health challenges requires collaboration and teamwork,” says the Hon. Kim Wilson, JP MP, Minister of Health. “The organisations that received grants from the Ministry of Health will be measured against the specific objectives and expected outcomes that were identified within their grant applications. This will enable the Ministry to see and report out the tangible results from its investment into the mental wellness of our community.” “By investing in these organisations and initiatives, the Government ensures support is available for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or socio-economic status because every individual deserves access to the resources that allow them to maintain their mental well-being and live fulfilling lives. There is no health without mental health,” she concludes, “and the Ministry will continue to fight stigma, improve access to mental health support, and ensure mental wellness remains a shared priority for all.”

Government press release: The Ministry of Public Works and Environment is inviting public feedback on proposed improvements to the boat ramp at ‘Stonecrusher Corner’ on Kindley Field Road in St. George’s. The Ministry intends to proceed with the construction phase of this project, which involves rehabilitating the existing concrete ramp to enhance safety and usability for boaters and recreational users. The proposed upgrades include restoring the launch surface and installing a section of concrete designed to allow vehicle access while helping to reduce surface water runoff onto Kindley Field Road.
Landscaping improvements will be included to improve the area’s overall look and feel and better integrate the site with its natural surroundings. This project supports the site’s ongoing use for boating activities and community events while maintaining a focus on durability, environmental responsibility, and public access. As part of the planning process, the Ministry is seeking input from residents on the proposed designs and any additional considerations they feel should be taken into account before construction begins.
The consultation period began on Thursday, 24 July and will conclude on Thursday, 7 August 2025. Residents are encouraged to visit forum.gov.bm to view the design drawings and submit their feedback online. For those who prefer to share their input in person, a public access station has been set up at the Department of Parks, located on the ground floor of Global House, 43 Church Street, Hamilton. Members of the public may visit the office between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to review the plans and complete a feedback form. Public input will help guide the final design decisions and ensure the project reflects the needs and expectations of the community.
