The Bermuda Bicycle Association is preparing for the return of the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race and SPMR Youth Classic on Friday as part of Bermuda Day celebrations.
The races begin at 8:20 a.m. and form part of the island’s annual Bermuda Day festivities alongside the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby and Bermuda Day Parade.
The Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race, which honours Bermudian cyclist Sinclair Packwood, is regarded as one of Bermuda’s premier cycling events and is known for its fast-paced racing and sprint finish into Hamilton.
Youth riders aged 9 to 14 will compete in the SPMR Youth Classic from Red Hole in Paget, while Open and Junior riders will race from Somerset to Hamilton.
Six-time winner Dominique Mayho said the atmosphere surrounding the event continues to make it one of Bermuda’s most exciting races.
The BBA is encouraging spectators to support riders safely, reminding the public that cyclists will be travelling at high speeds, particularly near Hamilton. Roads will close to motorised traffic from 7:30 a.m.
Registration for both races closes at 6 p.m. tonight, with no late entries accepted.
