Mewett and Maranzana battle tough international fields at Youth Olympics

International News via Reuters:
Bermudian swimmers Noah Maranzana and Maggie Mewett tested themselves against stacked international fields on another fast-paced day of competition at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
Both athletes took to the pool at the Complexe Tour de l’Oeuf for the high-octane 50m freestyle heats, with Mewett also pulling double duty in the butterfly on a historic week for Senegal as the first African nation to host an Olympic event.
Mewett delivered a sharp swim from lane one in heat five of the women’s 50m freestyle, clocking 28.12 seconds to touch second in her heat and claim a commendable 27th place overall in a crowded 69-swimmer field.
Maranzana mirrored that finishing position in the men’s splash-and-dash. Drawn on the outside in lane eight of heat six, he fired off the blocks to stop the clock in 25.05 seconds, taking eighth in a blistering heat to secure 27th overall out of 55 competitors.
Mewett then returned to the blocks for the women’s 50m butterfly, touching the wall in 31.28 seconds from lane three to finish sixth in heat two and 30th overall among 40 sprinters.
The back-to-back outings provide yet more invaluable big-stage pedigree for the young Bermudian pair as their Dakar campaigns continue.
