Cultural ties, political growth, and economic potential highlighted in ‘The Story of Us’ consultation
Cultural identity, heritage, and historical ties with the Caribbean took centre stage during a town hall meeting on full CARICOM membership.
With Bermuda weighing a move from associate membership to full membership, the public was invited to have its say as part of ongoing consultation on the Government’s Green Paper, entitled The Story of Us.
Dozens of residents turned out at St. Paul’s Centennial Hall for the meeting, chaired by Dr Dana Selassie.
Former Attorney General Phil Perinchief added that in Bermuda, “all of us need to mature politically” and that the Story of Us shows the potential of political evolution that he has observed first hand in Africa and across the Caribbean.
Home Affairs Minister Alexa Lightbourne said she believes that The Story of Us, highlights an opportunity to align with CARICOM in areas such as food security and agriculture, and tourism.
