The growing number of traffic collisions could be having a diminishing impact on Police enforcement.

The growing number of traffic collisions could be having a diminishing impact on Police enforcement.

This is because the manpower needed to attend and investigate a crash means there are fewer officers watching the roads.

The head of the Roads Policing Unit gives this as a reason why new stats that indicate a reduction in speeding tickets may not be reflective of actual driving behaviour.

Acting Superintendent Robert Cardwell spoke to our Gary Foster Skelton about the latest Operation Vega statistics.

BEST criticism not in line with reality – Roban

Criticism of this Government’s environmental record is not in line with reality, according to the Deputy Premier.

Walter Roban, also Home Affairs Minister, responded today to an article by Kim Smith, Executive Director of the Bermuda Environmental & Sustainability Taskforce.

Ms Smith levelled particular criticism at Ministerial discretion to veto the opinion of the Development Application Board with regard to planning permission. The Fairmont Southampton SDO was cited as an example.

Minister Roban addressed this at length in an interview with Gary Foster Skelton.

Government is playing “environmental smoke & mirrors” according to a campaigner

Government is playing “environmental smoke & mirrors” according to a campaigner – promoting one narrative overseas, but telling a different tale when it comes to local policy.

Some environmental protections are being “systematically removed”, suggests Kim Smith, director of BEST.

In a letter released to media, MS Smith criticises Ministerial discretion to override the Development Application Board with regard to planning permission.

She also takes aim at single-use plastics, recycling policy, and fisheries protections.

Earlier today, Ms Smith spoke to Gary Foster Skelton.

*We reached out to Government after we received the BEST letter. We had not received a response by newstime.
