Chris Furbert, who has been the President of the Bermuda Industrial Union for 20 years, recently announced his intention to retire in March 2028.
Mr Furbert was recently at the forefront of a labour dispute between the BGA family of companies and its employees over plans to effectively delay the payment of wages.
The row saw many workers join the BIU for support.
On another matter, however, Bermuda Broadcasting has discovered that industrial action at the Cargo Docks last year, centered on the dismissal of Mr Furbert’s son, may have been based on a disputable interpretation of the rules.
