Medevac community mourns loss of ‘dedicated’ pilots and crew

Gilbert ‘Artie’ Darrell, founder of the Bermuda Air Ambulance reflected on the work of medevac staff aboard the Latitude Air Ambulance flight that was lost just South of Nantucket Island

The local aviation community is mourning the loss of the pilots, crew and Bermudian passengers who perished on board Gulfstream jet Heartbeat 104 last Saturday.


Gilbert “Artie” Darrell founder of Bermuda Air Ambulance, one of the island’s medivac services, offered condolences to the famillies impacted, said the incident was a ‘pure tragedy.’

Retired administrator Marilyn Lavonne Bean and her son, Sergio Lottimore were on board the flight and the names of the four Canadian nationals aboard Heartbeat 104 were released by the US Coast Guard. They are Philip Gregory Childerhose, Thomas Henry Farquhar, Sarah Jane Payton and Jolene Beth Weir.

He spoke to the dedicated and professional staff he bonded with at Latitude Air Ambulance over the years.
