Bermudian tennis coach Jovan Jordan-Whitter oversaw a mixed start to Hampton University’s autumn campaign, with the Lady Pirates recording a win and a defeat at the CNU Duals.
Hampton launched their season in style against hosts Christopher Newport. Despite dropping the doubles point, Jordan-Whitter’s side rallied emphatically in singles play, taking five of six rubbers. Samira Khazieva led the charge at the top spot, with Serena Bryan, Toffee Ghorab, Tanya Midzi, and Melissa Sakiroglu all securing victories to seal a commanding 5-2 triumph.
A quick turnaround against Longwood — prompted by weather disruptions — brought contrasting fortunes.
The Pirates seized early control by sweeping both doubles contests, as Midzi and Ghorab claimed a 6-4 win before Mitic and Khazieva battled through 7-5. However, the Lancers hit back ruthlessly in singles competition, sweeping all five matches to leave Hampton with a split weekend.
