Bermudian Olympian Tyler Smith produced a devastating final-leg charge to secure a brilliant fifth-place finish in the elite men’s race at the Europe Triathlon Cup in Ceuta.
Smith stopped the clock in 52 minutes three seconds over the sprint-distance course, navigating a high-calibre international field to capture a prized top-five result.
The 28-year-old laid the foundations for his assault in the opening 750-metre swim, exiting the water in 8:09 with the 19th fastest split to keep the leading pack within sight.
A disciplined showing followed across the technical 19.7-kilometre bike section, where Smith clocked 27:12—the 14th best split—to keep himself in contention entering the second transition.
It was on the concluding 5,000-metre run where the Bermudian made his decisive impact. Unleashing the fifth-fastest run split of the day in a scorching 15:12, Smith powered past several rivals down the home straight to cap an outstanding afternoon on the European circuit.
