Scary stat? 94 speeding tickets issued over Hallowe’en weekend

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) carried out proactive, highly visible traffic enforcement and community engagement patrols, during the recent Halloween weekend.

Between 4pm Friday, 30th October and 4am Saturday, 31st October 2026 there were:

  • 5 people arrested – 3 on outstanding warrants, 1 for care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drug, plus 1 for dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified by age.
  • 238 vehicle engagements across three 315 F checkpoints.
  • 39 traffic tickets issued, with the majority, 31, for speeding offences. The highest speed recorded was 86 km/h.

Between 4pm Saturday, 31st October and 4am Sunday, 1st November 2026 there were:

  • 3 people arrested – 1 for assault on police, 1 for care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drug and 1 for outstanding warrants.
  • Approximately 70 vehicles engaged at one 315 F checkpoint.
  • 69 traffic tickets issued, with the majority, 63, for speeding offences.
  • High-visibility patrols conducted across the eastern, central and western parishes, including targeted foot patrols in identified community hotspots.

Despite the ongoing heightened BPS presence, speeding on our roads continues to be a concern, with 94 tickets issued for that offence, out of the 108 traffic tickets issued over the two, highlighted 12-hour periods, this past weekend.

Addressing some social media commentary about roads policing efforts, Superintendent Arthur Glasford points out issuing tickets isn’t the only outcome.

“While ticketing offending motorists is part of traffic enforcement, our officers are focused on reducing the overall speed of road users and making Bermuda’s roads safer. Traffic fines are there as a deterrent and to ultimately change behaviour.

Also, members of the public may not always be aware that traffic stops can, from time to time, result in the identification of other offences, or the gathering of information that may be relevant to ongoing police investigations.”
