Bermuda’s Lauren Cardwell and her University of Toronto Varsity Blues had to settle for a gritty 0-0 draw against heavyweight rivals Waterloo Warriors in an intense OUA encounter at Back Campus Fields.
In a clash between two of the conference’s premier programmes, both defences held firm across four fiercely contested quarters.
Toronto took the initiative early, with first-year midfielder Maddy Kim controlling the tempo and breaking up play, while goalkeeper Marry Yang was sharp between the posts when Waterloo threatened.
The visitors created their clearest opening after the break, only for a crucial goal-line block from defender Danielle D’Silva to deny them the lead.
Spurred on by captain Maggie Mullins, the Varsity Blues launched a relentless late assault in the fourth quarter. However, despite heavy pressure inside the Warriors’ circle right up to the final hooter, Cardwell and Toronto were forced to share the points.
