2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the formation of the BMDS Charitable Trust, which was created in 2001 in memory of Kate Huntington; a young and active member of BMDS who passed away in 2000. At the request of her family, all funds donated in memory of Kate are used specifically to promote theatre amongst Bermuda’s youth.
The trustees are pleased to announce that the Trust has been able to provide six Bursaries of $5,000 each to the following well-deserving recipients:
Ailie Waddington, who is starting a Bachelors Performing Arts at Dalhousie University,
Stephanie Hardy, who is continuing at Westminster University pursuing a degree in Film BA Honours,
Gianna Lupparelli, who will be attending The University of Ottawa seeking a Master of Fine Arts – Directing,
Ava-Joy Moreno, who is working on a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance at Marymount Manhattan College,
Zion Mills, who is attending Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, pursuing a degree in Acting (Musical Theatre) and;
Skye Minors, who is working on a Masters – Performing Arts at Leeds Beckett University.
In addition to these awards the Trust was able to continue to support the Bermuda School of Music Bursary programme with a contribution of $4,500.
The primary source of income for the BMDS Charitable Trust has been the annual Famous for 15 Minutes Playwriting Festival which celebrated its 20th this year. The 2027 Festival will take place from April 8th to the 17th, 2027.
