Fishers warned as seasonal spawning closure takes effect

The Ministry of Public Works & Environment has reminded fishers that the annual Hind Grounds and Grouper Grounds closure comes into effect on 15 April 2026

Commercial and recreational fishers are reminded that fishing in Bermuda’s Seasonally Protected Areas — known as the “Hind Grounds” and “Grouper Grounds” — will be prohibited from 15 April through 14 August 2026.

The closure is intended to protect spawning Red Hinds and Black Groupers during their breeding season.

Fishers should also note that Extended Closure Areas around important Black Grouper aggregations will remain closed to fishing beyond the seasonal reopening date. While the Seasonally Protected Areas reopen on 15 August 2026, the Extended Closure Areas will remain closed until 1 December 2026.
