Green light still possible for capsule homes, hopes Minister

Housing Minister Zane DeSilva signals Boaz Island project could move ahead

Zane DeSilva, Minister of Housing and Municipalities, appears confident that a pilot project for emergency capsule homes in the Boaz Island area will move forward – despite objections from nearby residents and a recommendation for refusal by the Development Applications Board.

When asked where things currently stand, he told Alisa Bernardo that, the project could still get the greenlight soon.

The Minister’s comments came during yesterday’s media briefing where he launched public consultation on the Bermuda Affordable Housing Strategy.

The ten year roadmap aims to tackle the housing crisis, with a target of delivering between 950 and 1,350 affordable and attainable housing units by 2035, using modular, precast, hybrid, and mid-rise construction methods.

The public can share feedback on the strategy online at forum.gov.bm.
