Historic Bermudian recruit Ralph Scott faces an extended spell on the sidelines after the University of Tennessee confirmed the incoming freshman requires knee surgery.
Tennessee Athletics announced that the landmark prospect will undergo a procedure on Thursday, ruling him out for an estimated six to eight months and delaying his collegiate debut for the Volunteers.
Scott made history upon committing to Rick Barnes’ side, becoming the first player from Bermuda to reach the NCAA Division I men’s basketball ranks. A consensus four-star recruit in the Class of 2026 out of Florida’s prestigious IMG Academy, he chose Tennessee over heavyweight offers from Kansas, Houston, and Purdue.
Head coach Rick Barnes voiced his backing for the young guard as he begins a lengthy rehabilitation process.
“Ralph was really looking forward to beginning his college career in a few weeks and we were excited to see him on the court,” Barnes said. “However, it is important he gets healthy and this surgery will help him do just that. Ralph is extremely talented and we remain enthusiastic about his bright future on Rocky Top.”
The recovery timetable sidelines Scott for the majority of the 2026–27 campaign, targeting a return to full basketball activities early next year.
