Mourners brave the heat to honour Sir John

Outside of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Wednesday, a queue had been growing since two hours before the funeral of Sir John Swan was scheduled to begin.

Bermuda Broadcasting understands that Sir John, as he is affectionately known, wanted a short one-hour Anglican church funeral, not a State Funeral. The proceedings fell close to his wishes, lasting about one hour and fifteen minutes.

In expectation of both the influx of people at the Cathedral, and the stifling heat, the proceedings were also broadcast live to air-conditioned locations in the Cathedral Hall, the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall, and Pier 6 on Front Street.

However, it became clear that most people wanted to brave the heat to ensure they were present – both to offer condolences to the Swan family, and to honour the life and legacy of Sir John Swan.
