People affected by trauma encouraged to seek support says grief and loss charity

The Gina Spence Program offers specific counselling services to those impacted by traumatic events such as homicide.

The first 48 hours following a traumatic event are the most critical for those impacted, according to a grief service charity.

Founder, Dr. Gina Spence of The Gina Spence Program says homicides come with a complex grieving process but that support is available.

She was speaking after last Thursday’s shooting incident at the Legend’s Bar that left two people dead and at least four others injured.

The program offers a 24 hour mobile crisis response team and wrap around services for the public.

She shares ways others can support those going through an emotional upheaval.

Dr. Spence stressed the importance of early intention after a person experiences a traumatic event.

She notes that most clients who receive grief and loss support at the earliest stage have better outcomes based on their data.
