Authorities seek public’s help to trace her whereabouts last week

Police confirmed today that they are treating the death of 28-year-old Honee Smith as “suspicious.”
Ms. Smith was found unconscious Thursday morning on a rocky embankment just off the trails near the Warwick playground on South Road. She later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Police say the circumstances surrounding her sudden death, now believed to be suspicious, are still under investigation. They are appealing to the public for information regarding her whereabouts last week.
At a media briefing today, Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith stated: “We announced last week Friday that there was a death and we reported on that death. Since then, we have put together a team of investigators who have been canvassing witnesses and conducting various lines of enquiry. As a result of those inquiries and some assistance from members of the public, it leads us now to believe that her death is suspicious, and we are treating it as such.”
He continued: “What we know from the investigation so far is that, in the early hours of Thursday morning – last week Thursday – we know that Ms. Smith was somewhere in the area of Darrell’s Wharf on Harbour Road in Warwick. We believe that, at that point, she was in a motor vehicle and travelled in a westerly direction. The exact time of that is believed to be somewhere between midnight and about 3 am. But what is critical to this investigation is for us to get a better understanding of her movements. We’re asking for members of the community who knew her, especially those who interacted with her last week, to contact us. This is very, very important so we can trace her steps and gain some clarity.”
Police also added that a family liaison officer has been assigned to support Ms. Smith’s loved ones and urged anyone with information to call Detective Inspector Leroy Mathurin at 717-2040.
An autopsy is anticipated in due course.
