Minister of Home Affairs the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne, JP, MP, welcomed the appointment, saying, “Protecting people from misleading, exploitative or dishonest trading practices is central to the work of the Consumer Affairs Board. Strong consumer protection helps safeguard residents and their families from financial harm and builds trust in the businesses they rely on. Mr. Crichlow’s legal expertise, record of public service and community leadership position him well to lead this work. His commitment to fairness and accountability will be valuable in guiding the Board’s efforts to protect consumers across Bermuda. I am confident that under his chairmanship, the Board will continue its important work of safeguarding consumer rights and promoting confidence in Bermuda’s marketplace.”
The Consumer Affairs Board, established under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, plays a key role in protecting consumers from unfair business practices, promoting consumer awareness, and supporting the safety and integrity of goods and services available to the public. The Board also supports broader efforts to ensure fair treatment in consumer transactions and strengthen public confidence in the marketplace.
The Ministry thanks Mr. Crichlow for his willingness to serve and looks forward to his leadership of the Board.
