Bermudian professional Daniel Augustus faces a test of character after an arduous opening round at the Clutch Pro Tour Tier 2 Championship left him down the leaderboard at Clandon Regis Golf Club.

The Ocean View professional signed for an 11-over-par 83 over his opening 18 holes, entering the clubhouse in 70th position heading into the final stages of the 36-hole season finale.

Augustus struggled to establish rhythm around the testing Surrey parkland layout, finding trouble off the tee and battling tricky green complexes.

His scorecard was heavily dented by eight bogeys and two double bogeys. A solitary birdie alongside seven pars did little to stem the dropped shots on an unforgiving afternoon for the field.

The 39-year-old arrived in England riding high on confidence after winning the Johnnie Walker Classic and securing qualification for the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

However, Augustus has repeatedly displayed his ability to bounce back from difficult starts in recent weeks. Having mounted an impressive second-round recovery in Hexham last week—slashing nine shots off his score after a similarly frustrating opener—he will return to the fairways on Thursday targeting another sharp turnaround over his final 18 holes.
