Berkeley Green are the new Bermuda School Sports Federations (BSSF) Senior School Girls Six-a-Side Champions after defeating CedarBridge Academy 1-0 in a tense final at the Berkeley Institute School Field.
The decisive moment came early in the first half when Callae Gibbons emerged as the hero, scoring the only goal of the match to secure the trophy for Berkeley. Following the goal, the Berkeley defence proved impenetrable, denying CedarBridge any route back into the tight contest.
Both finalists had survived penalty shootout drama in the semi-finals. CedarBridge edged out Warwick Academy after a 0-0 draw. Berkeley Green, meanwhile, needed heroics from goalkeeper Sydney Denkins in their semi-final against Bermuda High School (BHS). After a 1-1 draw in regular time, Denkins delivered a stunning performance, saving five of the six penalties faced to single-handedly guide Berkeley into the final and ultimately to the championship crown.
