Minister confirms site for capsule homes

A plot of land in the Boaz Island area has been chosen for an emergency housing pilot

It’s confirmed: a site has been selected in the Boaz Island area to house nine capsule homes, following a town hall meeting with residents.

In the face of some NIMBY opposition regarding the pilots location, Housing Minister Zane DeSilva stressed the urgency of the housing crisis.

He said there are seniors and families in desperate need, urging compassion and cooperation to help those most at risk.

The units are expected to be installed by the end of March, with priority for seniors, small households, and those facing critical housing insecurity on the Bermuda Housing Corporation’s waitlist.

Officials continue to stress the homes are transitional and intended for emergency relief only.
