One year ago, we sat down for our first interview about the short film Thoughts Become Things — a poetic and powerful story following a young Bermudian Gombey on a mystical journey to meet his ancestors. In just twelve months, the film has evolved from a local passion project into an international success, screening at seventeen film festivals across eleven countries and earning ten awards around the world.
Now, executive producer Stephan Johnstone is sharing the next chapter with Decoding Thoughts, a ten-minute mini-documentary that takes audiences behind the scenes of the award-winning film. The documentary offers a deeper look into how the story came to life, featuring interviews with the creative team, Gombey captains, artists, and local culture-bearers who helped shape its vision.
Set for release in December 2025, Decoding Thoughts explores the cultural meaning, artistry, and ancestral inspiration behind Thoughts Become Things. It invites viewers to step into the heart of Bermuda’s heritage — where art meets tradition, and the past moves through the present.
