Bermuda’s Darina Betschart produced at outstanding performance under pressure to capture the Girls 15 and Under title at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships.
Trailing overnight leader Haley Hall of the Bahamas at the Playa Dorada Golf Club, Betschart remained completely unfazed. She carded a magnificent final-round 74 to surge past her rival and win by three strokes, securing back-to-back regional titles in different age categories after winning the Under-13 crown last year.
“I’m very happy,” said Betschart, who battled illness during the week. “Being from Bermuda, the windy conditions made it slightly easier for me. It means a lot to win for my country.”
It was a highly productive tournament for the rest of the Bermudian contingent as well. Lewis MacFarlane narrowly missed out on a podium spot, securing a commendable fourth place in the Boys 11-13 division, while 10-year-old Bradford Laing gained crucial international experience in 16th.
In the Boys 15 and Under division, Grayson Tavares shot a resilient 78 to climb into eighth place, and Sa-Qui Robinson finished his campaign on a high note, carding three birdies in a final-round 76 to claim 13th spot in the flagship Under-18 category.
