Beyond the fairways: New charity aims to transform Bermudian golf

A heavyweight quartet of Bermudian golfers has launched ‘Beyond the Fairways’, a new charitable initiative designed to break down barriers and make the sport accessible to a more diverse generation.

Founded by Quinton Sherlock Jr., Daniel Augustus, Ebonie Cox, and Arriek Douglas, the charity is born from the founders’ shared journey through the island’s junior ranks to the professional stage. Drawing on their collective experience in elite play and coaching, the group aims to tackle the structural and financial hurdles that have traditionally limited entry into the game.

“We’ve lived the journey,” the founders said in a joint statement. “Beyond the Fairways is about ensuring more young Bermudians can access the game, stay in the game, and benefit from everything it has to offer”.

The charity will focus on four pillars:

  • Grassroots Development: Introducing golf alongside life-skills mentorship.
  • Inclusion: Reducing financial barriers to participation.
  • Scholarships: Supporting academic and athletic pathways locally and abroad.
  • Community: Partnering with schools and stakeholders to broaden the sport’s reach.

As the conversation around public golf shifts toward sustainability, this initiative offers a proactive solution: growing the game by investing in the next generation. Initial programs are set to roll out in the coming months, with the organization actively seeking corporate partners to help drive this transformation.
