He received the honour today from the University of Sunderland in London

Local football legend Clyde Best MBE has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Sport from the University of Sunderland in London.
At today’s graduation ceremony at Southwark Cathedral, the former West Ham striker said, “It is a great honour and privilege to be recognised for my work by the University.”
The recognition comes as production continues on the upcoming documentary Transforming the Beautiful Game, set to premiere in March 2026. The film explores how Mr. Best’s journey helped shape the future of football on a global scale.
With momentum building ahead of the release, Mr. Best has also been invited to speak at the Oxford Union on June 9th. The prestigious debating society has hosted an array of prominent figures, including Prime Ministers, Presidents, and Nobel Prize winners.
