Cup Match 2026 start delayed by three hours at Somerset

The Somerset Cricket Club says heavy rain and winds have forced a three-hour delay to Thursday’s opening of the Cup Match Classic.

The Somerset Cricket Club has delayed the start of the 2026 Cup Match Classic by three hours, citing recent torrential rain and winds that hampered ground preparations.

In a statement issued on July 30, 2026, the club said the decision was made after consulting the Joint Agency Command Centre and reviewing a forecast from The Bermuda Weather Service.

Gates will open at 6am on Thursday, with the first ball now bowled at 1pm, according to the club. The delay applies if there are no further hold-ups.

To make up for the lost time, play on Friday will begin one hour earlier, at 9am.

The club said the safety and general welfare of everyone was of paramount importance. It acknowledged the delay would bring some disappointment.

The Somerset Cricket Club also thanked plot holders who set up their viewing spots amid the heavy downpours that hit Bermuda this week.
