Daniel Phillips battles through to Kayseri main draw

Bermudian tennis player Daniel Phillips has secured his place in the main draw of the M15 Kayseri tournament in Turkey after coming through a grueling three-set battle against Vladimir Osminkin.

The 21-year-old showed immense resilience on the Turkish hard courts, holding his nerve during a high-stakes match tie-break to wrap up a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 victory.

Phillips, who comfortably won his opening qualifying match in straight sets, found himself pushed to the absolute limit in a fluctuating second-round contest. The Bermudian started the match with aggressive intent, breaking Osminkin’s serve to take a clinical 6-3 opening set.

However, Osminkin fought back well in the second, dictating play from the baseline to level the match with a 6-3 scoreline of his own.

With a place in the main tournament draw on the line, the match moved into a tense 10-point tie-break decider. Phillips stepped up his intensity when it mattered most, finding his first serves and forcing errors from his opponent to secure a commanding 10-5 victory in the shootout.

The victory guarantees Phillips a spot in the main draw as he continues his highly productive European summer circuit on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
