Olympian Emma Harvey has lowered her own national benchmark against a world-class field at the prestigious Mare Nostrum Swim Series in Barcelona.
Harvey produced a flawless tactical display in the Women’s 50m Butterfly at the Club Natació Sant Andreu, shaving five-hundredths of a second off her previous standard. Harvey’s blistering time of 26.54 seconds in the showpiece A Final eclipsed the previous national record of 26.59 seconds, which the Bermudian set in January at the USA Swimming Pro Swim Series in Austin, Texas.
In the preliminaries, Harvey safely navigated a heavily stacked morning heat packed with World Championship pedigree, clocking 26.76 seconds to advance as the fifth-fastest qualifier.
Returning to the blocks for the evening showcase A Final, she maintained a superb stroke rate against elite international talent, powering down the single lap to touch the wall in a clinical sixth place.
The record-breaking performance provides a massive injection of momentum for the Bermudian star as she continues her multi-city European tour across Monaco, Canet, and Spain. With the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow looming on the horizon later this year, Harvey’s elite execution in Barcelona proves she is firmly on target to challenge the very best in the world.
