Bermuda will host King Charles at the end of April, following his State Visit to the U.S.
King Charles III is coming to Bermuda.
Following a visit to the United States with Queen Camilla, the King will undertake his first visit to a British Overseas Territory in late April. The dates and programme are yet to be confirmed.
A press release from Buckingham Palace reads, “On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America.”
“Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.”
“The King will then continue to Bermuda to undertake His Majesty’s first Royal Visit as Monarch to a British Overseas Territory.”
A subsequent release from Government House stated that Governor Andrew Murdoch is “delighted to announce the upcoming visit of His Majesty King Charles III to Bermuda. This will be the first Sovereign visit to Bermuda in sixteen years and His Majesty’s first visit to a British Overseas Territory since his Coronation.”
“The visit is an opportunity to celebrate the many contributions Bermudians make in their communities, the wider British family in Bermuda and around the world. It will also strengthen the UK’s modern partnership with Bermuda, deepening the cultural, economic and societal ties between us.”
“Further details of the visit at the end of April will be announced in due course.”
“His Majesty’s last official visit to Bermuda was in 1970, to read the Speech from the Throne, officially opening the 350th year of parliamentary government in Bermuda.”
“The last visit by a Sovereign to the island was in 2009, when Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited Bermuda to join celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of settlement. Bermuda was the final Overseas Territory Her Late Majesty visited during her reign.”
