Mother and daughter duo make Eastern County history

In a historic moment for Bermudian cricket, a mother and daughter were part of the umpiring team for the Eastern County’s second-round match between Bailey’s Bay and Cleveland County.

The landmark occasion saw Precious Smith make her second appearance on the field, while her mother, Wendy Woodley, served as the Third Umpire. The match marked the first time a mother-daughter duo have officiated together in the competition’s long history.

Smith had already etched her name into the history books in the first round when she became the first-ever female umpire in the competition’s 121-year history. Her appointment, along with her mother’s role, marks a new chapter for the prestigious competition, continuing a trailblazing trend for female officials in local sport.
