O’Brien powers OCA to victory in festival opener

Bermudian all-rounder Isaiah O’Brien produced a sensational display of power hitting to lead the Ontario Cricket Academy (OCA) to a convincing six-wicket victory over Youngstar Under-19 in their Canadian International Festival Under-19 opener.

O’Brien smashed an explosive 86 runs off just 34 deliveries, turning a rain-affected run chase into a procession as OCA comfortably surpassed their revised target.

After weather interrupted play during the opening innings, Youngstar U19 managed 117-6 from 15.2 overs.

Kanishq Pahwa anchored the Youngstar innings with a top score of 55, while Rishit Badheka proved the stand-out operator among the OCA bowling attack, recording figures of 1-10 from 1.2 overs. O’Brien chipped in with 1-19 across his three overs.

Set a revised DLS target of 125 from 16 overs, OCA made light work of the pursuit, reaching 125-3 in just 11.4 overs.

O’Brien was the undisputed star of the chase, clearing the rope nine times and striking six boundaries in his 34-ball rampage.

Despite Saumya Bhatt’s best efforts for Youngstar U19—taking 2-16 from his three overs—OCA sealed an emphatic opening day win with 26 balls to spare.
