Opposition presses Premier for referendum on CARICOM membership

As Government appears to edge closer towards full membership of Caricom, the Opposition today raised the question of whether the public will have its say.


The OBA has called for a referendum on the subject.


Premier and Finance Minister David Burt recounted his attendance at the 49th Regular meeting of the conference of CARICOM heads of government this week in Jamaica reaffirming the country’s interest in regional integration.

Jarion Richardson, Opposition Leader of the One Bermuda Alliance asked the Premier on whether a public vote and parliamentary approval would be sought before a decision is taken on CARICOM membership.

He says he’s not satisfied with the Premier’s response.
