Repairs outstanding across public school buildings, says MP

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education promised that every school will receive a report this year, outlining what maintenance has been completed at their school, and the plan to address what work is outstanding

Addressing health and safety issues in public school buildings has been a focus for the Ministry of Education this summer.
However, Minister Diallo Rabain concedes that there is still a lot to do.
Speaking in the House of Assembly this morning, he said that 610 maintenance, repair and improvement items had been identified.
Only about a quarter of those, 148, are complete, and a further 212 are in progress.
He added that the emphasis has been on health and safety issues for students and staff.
69 of the identified items fell into this category. Just under a third of those, 22, are complete, and 32 are in progress.
Minister Rabain said: “Some of the maintenance items require much more extensive work.”

During today’s lunch break, the Minister was pressed on what level of health and safety concerns persist with regard to students returning to classrooms across the public school sector on Tuesday.
