Bermudian high jumper Sakari Famous has entered the history books once again after clearing a spectacular 1.85 metres at the John Green/Texas Greatest Athlete CE Invitational to set a new national record.
The 26-year-old produced a masterclass of vertical precision in the Lone Star State to win the women’s competition, scaling the bar at a towering 6 feet 0.75 inches to claim the top step of the podium. The sensational leap narrowly eclipsed her own previous national benchmark of 1.84m, which she had set back on 25 May 2022 during her decorated collegiate career at McNeese State University.
Famous’ record-breaking performance serves as a massive statement of intent on the international circuit, comfortably clearing her previous season-best of 1.81m.
Showing immense athletic versatility, Famous also took to the track in Texas to sharpen her explosive power, clocking a new season-best time of 26.03 seconds in the 200-metre sprint to finish ninth overall.
However, the headline glory belonged entirely to her exploits over the bar, with the new national record further cementing Famous’ status as one of the finest field athletes Bermuda has ever produced.
