Saltus Grammar School reigns supreme at athletics Championships

The National Sports Centre was the stage for a masterclass in youth athletics this week as Saltus Grammar School claimed the overall title at the 2026 Middle School Track and Field Championships. Amassing a combined 591.50 points, Saltus demonstrated a level of depth that left the chasing pack in their wake, fending off a resilient Whitney Institute Middle School and Warwick Academy.

While Saltus powered to the Female Team Division title, it was Whitney Institute who broke the clean sweep, showcasing their own athletic prowess to secure the Male Team Division crown.

The high-octane atmosphere was defined by two historic, record-breaking runs. In the Under 13 Girls 1500 Metres, Colette Durkin of Warwick Academy etched her name into the history books, clocking a record 5:09.67 in a breathtaking finish. Not to be outdone, the Saltus Over 13 Girls 4×100 Metre relay team shattered the previous mark, stopping the clock at a blistering 51.97 seconds.

Individual brilliance was equally evident, with Jasmine Reid-Rubaine and Xander Romeo both securing perfect 30-point scores in their respective divisions. As the curtain falls on the 2026 championships, the record-breaking times and exceptional point tallies serve as a vivid reminder of the burgeoning talent currently rising through the Bermudian school system.
