Acting Detective Superintendent Derricka Burns thanked members of the public for their assistance in averting a “potentially tragic situation.”

A senior was arrested and detained early this morning for knife possession outside a popular night club.
Police said they responded to a fight between two men outside Front Yard on Front Street at 3am today. A 61-year -old man was found holding a large knife.
It was seized by police and the suspect was arrested and due before the courts.
Acting Detective Superintendent Derricka Burns thanked members of the public for their assistance in averting a “potentially tragic situation.”
She warned against people carrying dangerous weapons in public places stating that they, “pose a threat to not only other members of the public, but also themselves, as they face having the weapon taken away and used against them by their intended target, or by being targeted for retaliation.”
She suggested that if anyone feels threatened, do not arm yourself, report your concern to someone in authority.
Meanwhile a 19 year old woman was arrested following a chase through the City just after midnigth on Tuesday.
Police said the rider failed to stop at a sign near Stow Hill junction and ignored officers signal to pull over.
She continued traveling towards Hamilton via Crow Lane, disobeying several traffic signs, red lights and rode in the opposite direction of a one-way street.
According to a police spokesperson, the rider was eventually apprehended and arrested for dangerous driving following a brief foot chase. A test showed she was over the legal blood alcohol limit.
The matter is now before the Department of Public Prosecutions for charges to be approved.
