Two circuits tripped while BELCO performed planned works in Paget, causing 1,700 customers to lose power

More than 1,700 BELCO customers in Warwick lost power around 2pm this afternoon, after two circuits were tripped.
The fault appears to be linked to planned maintenance works in Paget.
Around 6:20pm, Shelly Leman, BELCO Managing Director of TD&R, told Bermuda Broadcasting that “BELCO was undertaking planned maintenance works today in Paget when two circuits tripped causing an outage to approx. 1,700 customers in parts of Warwick.”
“BELCO crews immediately commenced efforts to locate the source of the fault while back-feeding sections of the circuits to bring customers back onto supply.”
“Approximately half of the customers had power restored within an hour, with several hundred brought back online shortly thereafter.”
“At this time, crews remain onsite working to restore power to the remaining 550 customers in the Khyber Pass area as quickly and safely as possible.”
“Updates on outages are available on www.belco.bm and BELCO’s social media pages. We thank you for your patience as our team works to restore every customer.”
