Who’s next to lead the OBA?

Public looking for direction, not just a new face, says political commentator

With Jarion Richardson due to step down as Opposition Leader, the question on many minds is – who will succeed him?

But it’s not the only question, suggests political commentator and radio host David Sullivan.

He says the public will also be watching closely for signs of the direction the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) intends to take.

Mr. Sullivan says the timing presents an opportunity for the OBA to define itself in a way that continues to resonates with voters.

Mr. Sullivan said while the OBA is not lacking in talent, that’s only part of what’s required to take on what he called a “thankless job” that demands “tremendous sacrifice.”

While Deputy Leader Ben Smith is the most natural successor, Mr Sullivan pointed out there are some interesting alternatives – especially following the Opposition’s gains at the polls earlier this year.

But it will take time, development, and planning … something Jarion Richardson has allowed for by announcing his departure well in advance.
