Bermudian make a statement in college golf opener
McDaniel College men’s golf team has put itself firmly in contention after the first round of The Melee at Ford’s Colony Country Club, sitting in third place, just eight strokes behind leaders Christopher Newport.
McDaniel posted a combined total of 297 in the opening round, with Christopher Newport’s Nick Alexander leading the individual standings at 1-under 70.
McDaniel’s challenge was spearheaded by senior Charlie Dolan, whose excellent 2-over par 73 placed him in a five-way tie for seventh.
Young Bermudian Dylan Muso, a first-year talent, delivered a solid start to his tournament. Muso and sophomore Jack Manfre both shot 3-over par 74s, putting them in a tie for 12th place.
With the team just five strokes behind second-placed Bridgewater (Va.), McDaniel College will be looking to close the gap in the next round of competition.
