Tough Start for Bermuda at Team Championship

Sailing

Bermuda’s sailors have faced a challenging opening day at the 2025 Team Racing World Championship Challenge, currently underway on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.

The prestigious event saw the Bermudian team eager to make a strong start against a competitive international fleet. However, the first day of racing proved to be a difficult one on the water.

Bermuda began their campaign with a defeat against Corinthian, followed by another loss against Newport Harbor. Their third race against Newport Harbor YC also ended in a setback. The challenges continued as they faced Kiwi Racing, the Italian Team, and finally the Swedish team in their final race of the day, with all three encounters resulting in further defeats.

At the close of the opening day, the Bermuda team finds themselves with a record of zero wins and six losses. While it was a tough start to the championship, team racing is a demanding event that often sees fortunes change.

The Bermuda sailors will be determined to regroup and analyse their races as the competition continues tomorrow. They will be aiming to find their rhythm and secure those crucial victories that can propel them back into contention in this World Championship. With their known resilience and sailing prowess, a stronger performance on day two will be the target.
