‘Enforce the law, improve the taxi service’

Taxi dispatcher says a ‘fragmented’ industry allows drivers to ‘cherry pick’ jobs – and the regulator needs to step in

If the customer is not getting the taxi service they want, the problem starts at the top.

Tafari Outerbridge of Central Dispatch says it’s the responsibility of the regulator to make sure taxi drivers and dispatch companies adhere to the law.

If that happens, he believes, it will solve all problems and create a more customer-focused industry.

The company recently claimed that the taxi industry has become fragmented. The various apps, Whatsapp groups and other methods of assigning jobs allows some drivers to choose the journeys they prefer, the company says, rather than prioritising the customer.
